Haha, yeah. If someone did something silly/dumb we'd say something like "way to go, you doorknob." I haven't used it in a long time.

I think it's good! Growing up, my family used it as a playful insult, so there's a level of endearment to it for me. I agree with the comment about a backstory, I think that would help "explain it" if you're worried about it being too weird.
