Of special interest to Naval Aviation enthusiasts: A P-80 being tested off the deck of the USS FDR in 1946. Flown by a Marine, of course, none other than the 1st USMC Ace of WW2 and legendary test pilot Marion Carl.

Check out this absolutely insane low level napalm run by a P-80 Shooting Star in Korea. That smoke stack in the upper right says this pilot is running closer than id dare off the deck.

I think you are right. This picture from similar time frame leads me to believe this

I found this picture from similar time frame, it leads me to believe the ships in my post are Charles F Adams class! good guess

We used to be a proper country. Look at this and tell me the navy is serious about defense.

We used to stick 8 harpoons on a freaking 130 ft long hyrdofoil! this thing could take out half the PLAN in an afternoon and I bet its 1/4 the price of the LCS.

USS Iowa, just arrived at HII for her modernization and refit in 1984! I have never seen any of the pre-modernization shots

40 years later, her cousin doing much the same work. Its now been just over 40 years since this picture was taken.

Interesting to think that the battleship had survived 40 years to launch missiles & now 40 years later, the same missile is being launched, just from different platforms

BB-58 with her guns at max elevation and dang near max starboard traverse during WW2. I have never seen an American Battleship firing with her guns at this elevation. Incredible shot.

Things you didnt see: The William Henry Baker Chocolate Company, a knock off of the Walter Baker Chocolate Company that was America's oldest chocolate manufacturer.

November 27, 2025 at 2:24 AM
First alloying in the books: didn't do the cannon because I'm still figuring out the sand
