I hear you, but yesterday was maybe the worst 90 minutes I've ever seen Portland play in general, combined with maybe the best defensive performance in memory. Zero adjustments at the half, and i feel like they could have won it before extra time if the appropriate changes had been made earlier.

Yeah that's definitely true. He and his staff can get credit for culture building, i still don't think it's close to meriting a COY nomination, but it's certainly enough to save his job! It'll be hard to convince me that he's done a good job with lineups and tactics and that has to count too

That said, I enjoy all Star Treks way more having watched the original series (except discovery, which is awful, but if you like it, that's great!) and even Enterprise.

Yeah, i get that. But even on limited minutes, if that's the case, waiting beyond minute 70 is still confounding. It's wild to me that people are calling for a COY nod, when like 3 weeks ago or whatever Portland got thoroughly shredded by Gotham

Fair points about starting, but i think you have to make those adjustments at the half at the latest. I don't think he's done well this season at all, but I'm stopping well short of calling for his job, lol. Coach of the year is beyond the pale

I mean that's maybe the most reductive way to look at it, there's so much more nuance to it. I think he mismanaged both of the last two matches and the players provided a few moments of magic and they deserve the credit. I'm not saying fire Gale or anything, but coach of the year? That's wild

I'm seeing the same thing for the Thorns/Rob Gale but it's people who actually cover the team ignoring a full season of dreadful mismanagement, obvious criticisms and the team advancing despite terrible lineups and absence of tactics. the parallels are there! They're both bad!

He's been a terrible manager and even in this match, the players got a win despite his best efforts (Deyna going the full 90??) All credit to the players. I cannot understand the revisionist history here
