My read is that it’s a pure power play by the Trade Federation, they’re demonstrating that they have the ability to shut down trade and cripple the functioning of the galaxy if the Republic doesn’t agree to lower taxes

It probably has the best moments (the opera scene, parts of the Mustafar fight) of the prequels, but also I would say the worst parts (CGI Palpatine fighting, everything with Padme)

My hot take is that Clones is actually the least bad of the prequels, Revenge of the Sith is the worst (they’re all in the Bad category). Skywalker is the worst one overall though I think

The unironic skeleton key to TLJ is Knives Out because they are literally doing the exact same thing: they spend 75% of their length unpicking genre tropes and hinting the genre itself may be outmoded before the entire final act is one big celebratory reaffirmation of all of them
I remember someone summarising the theme as "it's more complicated than that.... but also, it isn't"
