It looks like his photo might not be showing up, so let me try again, with alt text.

This is my paternal grandfather. He was a pilot with the USAF and flew B-17s with the 401st bomb group (H) in WW2 and bombed the hell out of Nazis. Tuskegee airmen often escorted them and made many of their successes possible. Grandpa died in the 70’s, but his co-pilot died only a couple years ago.

The time has come to start having kid #1 wait in the car at the bus stop. He complains but in the same breath says he’s glad he doesn’t have to wait in the cold.

If you find yourself in need with the government shutdown, particularly with SNAP, there’s the r/Assistance forum over on Reddit. It’s not limited to food or the US, but I try to help out over there and people regularly help out folks who post Amazon wishlists for essentials and shelf stable foods.

I got a chance to dabble in my geneology research today and uncovered a photo of my paternal grandfather that I had never seen before. He died before I was born. This is from WW. He was in the Air Force in the 401st Bomb Group (H) and flew B-17s with his partner/copilot, Sam. Sam died last year.

This is a fun game if you have a little in your life who is learning phonics/reading. It’s like UNO but phonics based.

I’m late to the thread but just in case you are still matching!

Latest additions to the kids’ home library. The Roald Dahl collection arrived yesterday, the @merriam-webster.com elementary dictionary arrives tomorrow. The plan is to keep the dictionary on the countertop so I can model how to use a dictionary as needed during afternoon reading.

Fresh cut lettuce from my kitchen Aerogarden tonight for chipotle-style bowls.

For anyone who is considering starting a vegetable/produce garden in the spring, these are the four books I use the most. The Workbook is used for planning your garden and tracking. All purchased on Amazon, I purchased these so I could have the books on hand for reference…

Working on an order of bookmarks that a customer ordered on my Etsy shop. My shop link is in my bio, and I just enabled the custom orders option. If you see something in my shop but want to know if I have other colors available, send me a message there and we can chat!

Stupid September heat wave. Definitely not planting my new kale, spinach, and collard greens seeds until this passes. A shade cloth and thoughts and prayers for my cool weather seedlings already in the 2nd raised bed. May the odds be ever in their favor.

Indoor Aerogarden is doing well. 3 romaine lettuce (the itty bitty one is also romaine) and one spinach.

Bright spot for the day. Kid #2’s pre-k class is called Pandas (all the classes at the pre-k have bear names) and her teacher gave each kiddo a little bamboo shoot with roots this week. Kid #2 and I just potted hers and it now resides on our kitchen countertop. Find your joy.

Kid #2 and I planted these from seed earlier this year, and they are finally blooming.

I highly recommend this book for kids. Kid #2 reads 2-3 pages per day and writes a 5-7 sentence report about what he has learned. Today was the French Revolution.

Today’s Costco splurge. They taste exactly like Firecracker popsicles, great with very cold water and ice.

The kids will get a grow bag to plant the fall seeds of their choice. Raspberry bush went in the ground over the weekend so here’s hoping that takes to the ground well and spreads. Tiny harvest today, summer plants are tired, still waiting on a bunch of tomatoes to turn.
