I'd add that it was a new notebook (not that they checked), but it was also really useful because the examiners had suggestions around things like publication or future research directions which you might want to jot down too. With all the adrenaline you might not remember afterwards!

On a very basic and practical level, I found it useful to add tabs so I could find chapters and subsections very quickly. I think I also put in tabs with keywords so I knew where I had made arguments about specific things. But in the end I didn't need them that much in the viva.

Genuinely would love to see something from the Greens on how they would bring about a sustainable funding model for universities. Students are paying evermore, yes, but university staff are constantly being asked to do more with less.

Not to take away from the overall point, but I wonder how much of the Armed Forces stat can be explained by the fact that the military helps pay to send AF's children to boarding school (to reduce the amount of education disruption) and being in the military is often something that runs in families
