The Prime Minister should show British leadership on Ukraine by inviting President Zelenskyy to address Parliament on Monday.

I'm proud that the UK has been Ukraine's staunchest ally from the start. We mustn't falter in the face of Trump's bullying now.

The challenge now is that there is no clear consensus – even among the coalition of the willing – on what contributions Europe can make to Ukraine’s security.
Europe needs to make its own plan for peace in Ukraine – and rouse its people to the threat from Russia
President Trump refuses to commit the US to defend Ukraine’s sovereignty. Europe must agree how to fill the vacuum to have a hope of influencing negotiations with Putin.

Who will defend Europe?

An Taoiseach's speech in Cork - clearly, albeit indirectly, pushing back against President Higgins' recent criticism of European defence.

"In defending themselves they are not being warlike, and Ireland must and will support Europe in helping them protect the basic values of freedom and democracy."

A more realistic proposition based on Today’s NATO announcement! We should think more comprehensively about European collective defence and include Canada within that discussion! Inward investment in Defence industrial capacity and self reliance will support stronger defence overall!

What does it mean to no longer be “primary guarantor”? Does it mean US doesn’t think SACEUR should be an American? Does it mean American footprint in Europe will shrink? Or just another way of restating desire for bigger & stronger Euro “pillar”
within NATO?

Towards an EU 'defence union'?
The EU can play a substantial role in strengthening Europe's defences, in synergy with NATO and national efforts, if it adopts a pragmatic approach, sharply focused on military needs.

Today finally confirmed what many feared! Europe and for that matter democratic nations around the world can no longer rely on the US as a partner for defence! Whilst 5% GDP appears steep! Weening ourselves of our dependence and inward investment will make our economy and nation stronger.
'“The [UK defence] chiefs want a budget of 2.65 per cent of GDP but the Treasury is adamant that they should work to 2.3 per cent.” A second official confirmed the gap between the two sides, which amounts to about £10bn a year.' www.ft.com/content/fc9d...

Proof that controlling consumer prices is an impossible task when faced by the outbreak of a pathogen that doesn’t respect borders or political affiliation! No matter what people were told during an election prices won’t change until the virus is under control! And bird populations have recovered!
The chief reason for the price spike, economists and market analysts have said, is the highly-infectious bird flu that has cut through the chicken population and reduced egg supplies, along with strong consumer demand for eggs.
