Television is a greek-origin word. It combines “vision,” meaning “to see,” and “Telly,” referring to the great Greek-American actor Telly Savalas.

Here is a picture of Mr. Savalas in his most famous role, “Kojak,” a program that appeared from 1973-78 on, you guessed it, television!
