This is a terrible position because it regards material politics in purely individual, consumerist ways: what are the material politics of the straw or bag once they're in the ocean? Of pollution generally? Of climate change? Those are politics that cause harm but we're asked to ignore all that

So I got a pack, went to the address and shared biscuits with the utterly baffled employees of the high end salon now on the premises

Just finished this book and it is absolutely brilliant. It shows starkly how sectarian violence and oppression shredded the social fabric of Belfast during the Troubles. The characters are so vivid, rich and complex. The writing is gorgeous, economical and poetic at once. Loved it, 10/10

I just learned that there has been a taxidermied blue whale in Sweden since 1865. They used to have the mouth open and people could walk into it, until a couple was found having sex in there in the 1930s. Now it's only opened on special occasions www.atlasobscura.com/places/malm-...
