They are good at pontificating while having a white supremacist approved accent. Like other white immigrants, their accent lends them charisma points they wouldn’t have in their countries of origin.

In the very homogenous Mormon community they live in, they have garnered a lot of status and authority. Not because they are good at building community. Not because they are overly kind or generous, not because they are emotionally intelligent, or are good at communicating.

I see the same phenomenon in a relative who is an immigrant from New Zealand. People automatically assumes that he is much more knowledgeable about many more topics than he is just because he has an accent and asserts opinions confidently.
