I drive a school bus and write. Poetry: Rain Totem, Black Hole, Road to Omak. Flash in Bending Genres, Cluster of Lights. Seeking representation on a novel. Favorite procrastination strategies: hiking, kayaking, camping.
I meant to say, your region? So your favorite hike that you have done or want to do. It’s more broad/open than that. 😂 hope that’s okay this time.

I mean, I don’t go to a lot of movies, like, in a theater and everything, so this fass-binding better be really good. 😌

So, yeah, dating would be fun, distracting, and all that, but is it weird that I think my time is better spent working on (the next) thing? Will I look back on this year and wonder why i didn’t try balancing both?

And there are definitely people I would and could spend more time with, but why create more opportunity to be misunderstood and share my limited upside with? I mean it’s fun for me but what would (one) get out of that except… so I wait. And polish my work until it’s ready for a patron, a publisher.

Okay, so I’m not complaining, but as someone who has spent most of their time “in a relationship” I am enjoying… not. And spending so much time “with myself” I am discovering (rediscovering) what is important to me. Hiking, live music, hockey games, not drinking and cooking.

But that wasn’t the end of the story. The journal that accepted it, Smash Cake Magazine, folded shortly after. This thing happens in an industry where people do things out of pure love and joy rather than economic metrics.

A friend who is an author read it for me. I asked her, what’s wrong with it? She said “nothing” you just haven’t found your editor yet.

The next submission was an acceptance, an enthusiastic one. Reader, I hadn’t changed a thing.
