I've been using Linux Mint Debian Editon. I will note that Debian tends to stay on some older software versions so things are less likely to break. But v7 is new so it should be pretty up to date.

If you can only do two, I'd still recommend putting shared files in their own partition that's compatible with both systems. I'd imagine FAT32 would work well.
