It's a workmanlike run through of stuff that's obvious to most thinking people.
And it misses one very key point: You don't get establishment figures in the press/socials/TV defending the actions of the UAE or China. Israel's prominent apologists fuel a cycle of (justifiable) outrage.
This is a really good piece from @joshglancy.bsky.social. Far from “whataboutery“, it’s a genuine attempt to to wrestle with a disturbing and peculiar feature of contemporary politics, namely “why is the world quite so obsessed with Israel and Palestine?” www.jewishnews.co.uk/the-world-wa...

We're at a point where Reform politicians are saying stuff that's more racist than a parody of racist Tory MPs in the 80s.

I didn't think I'd ever see a more pathetic attempt to justify taking Saudi blood money than Hendos.
Chapeau Omid Djalili.
Hope you'll be heading back there soon.

Barney Ronay piece in today's Guardian supporting the upcoming UEFA ban on Israel.

Now Barney's been quite a big Israel defender over the years (or at least a fierce critic of its critics) so you might think it was a perfect moment for some self-reflection or expressions of sympathy with...

As someone with a level of passing professional familiarity, the answer (which is pretty obvious to anyone thinking about it): all of that tracking is carried out by a huge array of different bodies, private and public. Joining up the data to one Big Brother view is basically impossible right now.
Never really got the outrage about ID cards when they were first proposed 20 years ago and get it even less now that almost every single human interaction is mediated, tracked and authorised on a second-by-second basis through our phones, anyway. What do people think it would really change?

Incredible Brit Journo one-two in this thread.

"People who disagree with me are fixated on archaic principles of British exceptionalism"

Also

"We don't need to worry about the obviously huge risk to civil liberties, this is Britain, we have our trusty democratic process to oversee it"

The fault line between the 'court' and 'country' factions (i.e. affluent and posh free marketeers vs. nostalgic Little Englanders) was always there but the former were the dominant partner.

Brexit flipped that on its head and now they can't resolve the inherent ideological conflict between them.

Anyone got the polling data on how many Reform voters think Michael Gove is a cunt?
Michael Gove, "Reform voters are very close to, in their general views, with the British public"

A typical melty Guardian piece, from someone who is painfully naive about fascism ("Tommy Robinson is not a fascist because he has a Churchill tattoo"). Doesn't even offer a solution, whole point seems to just be to scold people for not policing their language.

It's very obviously a conspiracy and it's great it's in the news again because a) Maga civil war is funny and b) it makes some of the worst people in the UK sweat.
so epstein was supposed to have a cellmate and be checked every 30 mins, but the day prior they transferred his cellmate out and didn't replace him, and then the guards fell asleep at the same time, and the cameras were malfunctioning except one, which is missing 3 minutes of footage that night?

There is no such thing as a 'credible alternative' though, because the British establishment has clearly shown it will unite to ratfuck anyone left of centre.

I'd like to move on from Corbyn too, but be serious - there's no magic leader waiting out there who can beat the system.

When labour inevitably carry on moving to the right and get obliterated by Reform do we think John and all his pals will hold their hands up and say 'you know what, we got it wrong actually'?
Most Labour members see Farage as their party’s biggest threat…
and most members think Labour should move to the left

As a Jew I am far, FAR more alarmed by our institutions equating me and other Jews with the IDF, who are responsible for the murder of over 80,000 Palestinians, by dint of framing any critique against the IDF as ‘antisemitism.’

Linking all Jews to the IDF is *actual* fucking antisemitism.

Remember 5 years ago when Steve Reed called a Jewish party donor a "puppet master" on live TV, and was allowed to simply apologise and shrug it off? Still a Labour front bencher to this day.

An instructive comparison to the Lineker situation isn't it?

we didn’t abandon labour.

after 20 years of loyally voting labour, in every election, your leader told me to fuck off and your party is now actively persecuting me and my community.

betrayal doesn’t even come close to describing what labour has done.

Jfc, is there literally anything Israel can do to convince these people that the violence against Palestinians is *part* of the system rather than 'a few bad apples '.

Fuck the Guardian (again).

Being a historian, people ask me if I think the US is living through Germany 1933.

I answer no, analogies are always imperfect but to me it feels more like Russia 1999: a blatant theft of state assets and liberals in a fugue state, refusing to believe the arc of progress is bending against them.
