I first became aware of Taylor Lorenz during one of the (many!) times she was twitter's main character; this particular time she was arguing employers not keeping workplaces at 90 degrees in the summer was ableist, and the entirety of disability twitter was dragging her for goofy virtue signaling
listen, the government has abandoned us and managing covid is a series of bad personal decisions. I don't fault anyone for doing their best. But the distance between her "anyone who disagrees with me is literally ablest" online puritanism and her real life behavior was very very funny

JUST IN: Governor Tony Evers signed new legislative maps for Wisconsin.
Maps give Dems a new shot at winning majorities in WI, undo GOP's hyper-gerrymander.
They were proposed by Evers after state supreme court struck down the gerrymander. GOP passed them last week to avoid court coming back in.

I think this was ultimately when i gave up on the united states
Covid forced a dramatic expansion of the US social safety net, massive state intervention in the economy, and big new investments in health care infrastructure. And then we got a bi-partisan consensus to roll as much that back as possible, as fast as possible.

Whenever I log a movie on Letterboxd, a book on Goodreads, or peruse the various media lists here and see people writing long, thoughtful reviews - or even actually blogging - I am amazed. Where are y'all finding the energy to BLOG in 2024?

After almost four years I've finally caught Covid. Extremely not happy about it but doing okayish so far? Oddly enough I'm glad to already have a trach and be on a vent so I don't have to worry as much about my breathing.

The reason AI guys are so obsessed with using AI to replace TikTokers and other things young women do online is because coolness and pop culture, as defined, largely, by teenage girls, is the last institution Silicon Valley can't figure out how to replace.
