Prof. Snyder’s concept of “schizofascism” is useful for this moment. With its own US flavor, it’s happening here in Trumpland & can be seen in many of MAGA’s attacks the left & as Trump realizes Putin’s goals, victim blames Ukraine for its invasion by Russia, & calls Zelensky a dictator.

I’d love to ask who at USDS/DOGE is he reporting to. And what “high-level policy direction” was he given? And sounds like Elez isn’t back(?)

Have you read Timothy Snyder’s “On Tyranny”? I’m thinking of / expanding on Snyder’s chapter on Paramilitaries when I name them this. Labeling their role in fascism not validating their expertise.

The (assumed to be) domestic propaganda is also gruesome. The way Fox News spun Musk/Trump USAID and South Africa attacks as an abortion + anti-Biden issue makes me want to break heavy things. Absolute Rage.

I’m currently thinking of it as an Executive Branch coup.

Also, fwiw coup by definition doesn’t necessarily require the removal of a leader. And violence comes in many forms.
