My new story, Four Flowers in Formaldehyde, comes out in Pink Hydra on October 3rd. The story is heavily influenced by "mad science" horror films of the mid-20th century - where deadly experiments are performed in the basements of crumbling gothic manors in pursuit of youth, beauty and immortality.

I made the perhaps inadvisable decision to go to the zoo during a heat wave. It was a sleepy day for everyone except the adorable molting teen penguins, since they have a pool, the lucky little bastards.

I accidentally went to Culloden the weekend after the anniversary, so there are loads of fresh flowers at the cairn. I also saw 400 different kinds of daffodil at Brodie Castle, and stopped off for curry and mocktails in Inverness.

I had a fab time out at Woolly Good in Edinburgh this weekend! I was very sensible and actually kept to a yarn festival budget for once in my life, but I did come home with some very pretty skeins of Ripples Crafts DK.
