TF2's matchmaking update eventually took the legs out from unofficial server hosting; modern day UGC services like Roblox/SL do not allow self-hosting in much the same way
you have to upload the Asset™️ directly to the service nowadays, & that's a risk for overzealous contentID or a ban. shit sucks

TF2's matchmaking update eventually took the legs out from unofficial server hosting; modern day UGC services like Roblox/SL do not allow self-hosting in much the same way

realized earlier today just how much of my music tastes and overall library can have its roots traced back to hearing mp3s embedded in custom TF2 map files, and it stings a bit to think no other generation will get that kinda freedom of chance in much the same way
