Herne Bay pier was in need of repair and closed in 1968. Sadly the pier pavilion was destroyed by fire in 1970 during restoration works.

I'm amazed how often Canterbury & Whitstable Railway gets overlooked. It was the 1st railway to haul passengers by steam as part of a regular service when it opened 3rd May 1830. The S&DR was Horse drawn, & Liverpool & Manchester Railway opened 15th September 1830. I plan to address that #railway200
