Really hated this to start with, I think I just don't vibe with the writing style, and it felt very on the nose. But about half way through I stopped reading against it and ultimately I did get something out of it in the end. Vividly imagined it as a 70s era sci-fi film à la Logan's Run.

Reeeeeaally loved this, now my favourite Wells. I was smiling the whole time I read it because I was so enthused. Some absolutely banger lines in this that made me feel like I was watching the World Cup or something.

Read for a prompt but I don't enjoy comics so I've got nothing to say here sorry 😭

Also life-changing... I was taking part in an August readathon and it was unbelievably motivating. This is probably my favourite book of the year. Brought me back to myself and articulated something I'd assumed was indescribable.

Life-changing to me. His writing doesn't always hit, but this was a masterpiece. Loved the protag's friendships with his main colleagues and it was an incredible reflection on citizenship and control.

A reread. I don't know why this called to me in high summer, maybe because I struggle to read in the winter or inside. Read it during the last month that I was the same age as Jack, while I was in Brighton. Does nothing to dissuade me from wanting to go insane in the arctic.

it was May, I had just read some Wodehouse, I was feeling the Great British Summertime and reading outside every day. I enjoyed this also :)

going to do a self-indulgent thread on the books in question here we go

barely any recollection of reading this one, I think the short story format works much better for J&W (also I get sad when they're separated for too long)
