I surmise they’ll purge any remaining damning evidence from the files before they ever see the light of day. They’ll destroy the evidence first, reasoning that containing the fallout is far preferable to facing the far‑reaching repercussions that would otherwise follow.

I find it underwhelming that such a weak, clumsy response satisfies the press corps so easily. I hope they’ll stiffen their spines and push back more firmly on this and other issues.
