Though I am slightly embarrassed to see that my pithy bio rather stands out. I fear that it exposes a certain ambivalence, which I promise is not how I feel about this particular accolade. But my mum said that "it betrays your arrogance", which is perhaps worse.

Rather splendidly, I've also landed in this year's 'Best American Food and Travel Writing'.

Here's the piece that made the cut (another @noemamag.com joint): www.noemamag.com/nice-view-sh...

With thanks again to Bryant Terry and @jayasaxena.com for selecting.

Very pleasing to see @noemamag.com's latest print edition drop through my letterbox.

It includes my piece about solar storms, and is a pretty beautiful thing. Link here if you want to buy a copy: shop.noemamag.com.

Still day-reaming about this Greenlandic blue iceberg.

Is it lots of people who have clearly lost their minds?

Greenland, holy shit.

Perversely interesting in this information dystopia to check up on an article's sad afterlife.

Found this A.I-generated podcast about my latest piece on solar storms.

Zero intellectual engagement. Zero effort. Dozens of journalists' copyrighted work harvested for ad revenue. Dullards.

Sounds like progress to me.

This was taken at around 4,000 meters on the south flank of Mount Damavand, in Iran, in 2008. The most hospitable country I've ever visited, bar none.

Whoever could have predicted that two men who have never had a genuine human friendship in their entire adult lives would fall out with one another so quickly?

My new pre-emptive neologism: "Interplanetary Affective Disorder" (IPAD).

- The depression that descends on the future space traveller as they realize how terribly fucking boring it is to holiday on Mars.

It's no small thrill to announce that my piece in @noemamag.com about the duality of tourism has been selected for 'The Best American Food and Travel Writing' anthology for 2025.

Lovely photo of the big man in The Guardian. 99 today, and the very embodiment of the notion that intellectual passion keeps you young.

A few photos from East Caicos, the largest uninhabited island in the Caribbean. It was an absurd privilege to visit this place.

Coming back to Earth after an extraordinary few days on the Turks and Caicos islands.

Far from the resorts of Provodenciales, on the largest uninhabited island in the Caribbean, there is a subterranean wonderland.

Just flew over DC en route from Canada to the Caribbean and half-wished for an open window so that I could spit.

My advice to young people looking to get into journalism? Buy a daily newspaper in partnership with your oligarch dad, transform it into a weekly high-society rag, then commission yourself to write the cover stories.

Once again marking Mother's Day by sharing my mum's ferocious letter to my asshole headmaster.

"I would prefer you to leave the disciplining of my son to a teacher less blinded my prejudice and spite..."

Love you mum! x

Daddy, when I grow up I want to be a "carcinogen lobbyist". It's a job, I suppose.
