This reminds me that Alban Berg was a confirmed petrolhead, too! Unfortunately, I can’t find any reference to this on album covers of his music.

The first Shostakovich (two separate) discs I bought in the early 1960s were of the 11th symphony conducted by André Clutyens, which I obsessed over for a while. I now find the symphonies on the whole very uneven, but my favourite would be no. 4, conducted by Kondrashin.
