Winsome Earle-Sears' 42.5% in Virginia is the lowest share of the vote for any Republican gubernatorial candidate in 60 years. Linwood Holton, Tim Kaine's father-in-law, received only 37.2% when he lost a three man race in 1965.

In 2021, McAuliffe carried vote rich Fairfax County by about 130k votes. Last night, Spanberger carried it by almost 210k. That's the type of swing one simply can't erase even with juiced rural turnout (which didn't materialize).

Spanberger's margin of victory is the biggest Democratic gubernatorial win in Virginia in 64 years!

It's now been 28 years since Virginians allowed a Republican to succeed a Republican into the Governor's mansion.

If Mike Johnson possessed instinctive political leadership, he would have kept the House in session and forced Mikie Sherrill to take tough vote after tough vote after tough vote. But alas, if you're in over your head all you really are is a song by The Fray.

There is now a convicted criminal serving on the New Hampshire Supreme Court. This story is getting lost in the national news, but sad and troubling nonetheless.

I expect the next Democratic president to bulldoze the ballroom and immediately rebuild the East Wing and the gardens. And yes, use my tax dollars.

We got Roy in NC.
Now Sherrod in OH.
Waiting on Janet in ME.

Likewise, those who went so woke that progressive voters in blue cities and districts threw them out of office won't lead us to victory either.
Those whose ideology led the Democrats to a 19% approval rating will not be the ones to lead the party out of it.

Senator Mark Warner raised almost $3 million in Q2 and is sitting on a $10.1 million stockpile. With no notable Republican opposition, he is set to cruise to a fourth term next November.

It's been 47 years since a Republican won at least 51% of the vote in a U.S. Senate election in Illinois.

Booting Rebecca Bradley from the Wisconsin Supreme Court in April is an important short term electoral goal for Democrats. Not just because it'll be a cathartic shot of confidence, but because Bradley is a cancer on the health and integrity of the court.

In 1992, there were only three states in which Clinton won more popular votes than Bush and Perot combined: AR, MD, and NY. Maryland was the closest with Clinton outpolling Bush and Perot by a mere 63 votes.

In 1964, LBJ won 315,463 votes in Rhode Island. 61 years later, his record still stands as the highest presidential vote total in state history. It's also the oldest such streak in the United States.

Republicans want to roll back early voting, absentee voting, the number of polling places, and Election Day hours, but will leave a vote on the House floor open indefinitely.

If Murkowski votes for final passage of the megabill, under no circumstances should she ever be welcomed into the D caucus. You can't knowingly vote to hurt millions of Americans and then run into the Democratic fold for political preservation.

Ideally, Mikie Sherrill should resign now so the special election can coincide with the statewide general. But alas, that would be too logical.

Run Roy Run!
Shock announcement: NC Senator Thom Tillis just announced he is retiring, less than 24 hours after he opposed starting debate on his party’s mega bill.

His seat is up in 2026, and having it be an open seat sure changes the calculus and Democratic chances of flipping it.

It's quite ridiculous that the Los Angeles City Council salary is $218,000 annually. That's more than sitting senators, representatives, and all but 5 governors.

A noun, a verb, and Joe Biden.
Democrats destroyed our credibility by propping up Joe Biden—and we won’t fix that by burying our heads in the sand…again.

And I don’t give a shit if you don’t think it’s helpful.

Love him or loathe him, he is the only Democrat capable of holding Maine-2 in a post-2016 world. He is a vote for a Democratic Speaker and majority.

Gary Peters, Tina Smith, and Jeanne Shaheen are wise in retiring in a midterm that should be favorable to Democrats. This is good politics, good policy, and good strategy.
