I don't often meet other Helens. On the bus coming home from the symphony, an older woman (turns out she's in her 70s) sat next to me. She inquired about what I was reading (Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler), and from there we had a long, rambling conversation the whole bus ride home. 1/3

Plans for our NYC trip at the end of October are coming together! I now have tickets to Waiting for Godot AND the new production of Chess (which will be in previews while we're there)! Next up is figuring out a hotel and what touristy and foodie things we want to do. Suggestions welcome!

Every year on Memorial Day, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring.

They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died.

France also gave us this land as American soil.
