This guy is in one of the worst prisons in the world with no way out and may spend the rest of his life there because, it appears, he has an autism awareness tattoo in honor of his little brother.

Same reason that we all still have an appendix (a structure that exists solely to help the body process raw meat), we are omnivores biologically that at one point in our past were carnivores. we're products of our past and it still effects us (and all plants and animals) today.

Abysmal quality control. Nature lets anything pass inspection, as long as at least one babby survives long enough to make more.

My favorite is when someone would figure it out and then get shouted down because "eat a lemon" didn't match the prevailing medical theory of the day, and how that happened like half a dozen times.

And then there's salt. You can't eat rocks, except for this one rock that you absolutely have to eat some of, or you'll quickly die, but don't eat too much too often, or you'll shorten your overall lifespan.

In fairness, “you can make millions of individual molecules but there are 13 that you need but can’t make so let’s outsource their production to plants. Also, it’s actually 12…you can make one of the vitamins…as long as the sun’s rays touch your skin like you yourself are a plant” does sound fake.

You won't believe this. My team and I make this show called SciShow that works hard to be rigorous and accurate while also being appealing and entertaining.

We reach a LOT of people every year with episodes about crabs and neutrinos and gender and cancer and vaccines.

It's great, I love it.

so the paper has a small section on addressing threats by incels of color and the lack of research about them. I hate hate hate when my work is relevant.
it's being submitted today! just added my ORCiD ID to my profile. it'll be coming out in the Journal of Violence Against Women next year!
I have to re-read and edit a 50- page research paper on incels for resubmission to the journal. we are 5 pages over and they already have us an extra 10 pages.

pray for me 😩

But the government does get to decide what healthcare it covers, whose IDs are valid, which people it’s legal to discriminate against.

This culture war idiocy is so powerful. This is going to be a long fight.

True. But not this. The faculties needed to facilitate inner growth come from the community that fosters us and what defines that reality. Without the right infrastructure (being taught), the identity becomes externalized. "Self" becomes an assignment instead of a being to be loved and cared for.

I spent 3 days watching every frame of the animated classic FernGully: The Last Rainforest. I cross referenced lists, maps and my own approximate area of where the movie took place around Wollumbin (formerly Mt Warning), Australia to figure out a species list.

The Dem Party must do more to address people’s material needs directly. People need public housing, healthcare, education, and child care. The issue is these folks are committed to denigrating any concern around misogyny, racism, xenophobia, etc, as a direct impediment to getting it
