anyone else using home assistant to "de-google" or "de-bezos" your smart home? I just discovered I can prom scrape all the metrics and graph any sensor data! I present to you the grafana "Climate Dashboard" with historical data for temperature, humidity, and A/C run cycles. And its all LOCAL!

90 card edge break out PCBs to assemble! well I’m only going to assemble 18 because that’s all I actually need at the moment.

so this only happens when the firmware upload over OTA starts.. it ends up flashing fine.. but I can't figure out what is causing this. It only happens at the beginning and before the actual bits start streaming to the flash... once the stream is established its fine... perhaps a task preemption?

Stress testing:

Playing back a FLAC audio file from an SD card,

while pushing data over websockets,

while processing udp packets & btn presses,

while handling WiFi and SPI ethernet,

and blinking multiple addressable LEDs...

When you tune FreeRTOS, its pretty amazing on an ESP32...

How it looks to the tech world when yet another "we added an AI helper" announcement hits our inbox... thanks I hate it.

soo... uhh.. what now? Is it obsolete or in production? Which is is it Micro-mel?

Christmas came a few days early!

and here's the schematic.. not updated yet.. those are the offending caps..

Oh yes. That’s much better. 🧘

Anyone else have this kind of ADHD, where past you leaves a massive mess for future you to clean up… and then future you just puts the next project on top or is it just me?

I think it worked. This is full 2 amps load (the slight voltage drop is the inductance in the tiny test leads which are not big enough for this kind of current and therefore are trying to become incandescent light filaments… very slowly)

What’s that whistling sound? So uhh… someone did the math wrong for ESR zero on this switch mode power supply design… I always miss some mundane detail. Now I get to swap some 0402 caps on these boards, where are my glasses… sigh

I forgot about this one.. I think its in my top 5 favorites.

Every PCB I've ever designed has something hidden under a component somewhere..

interesting times... when I see a social link for "X" but not Bluesky on a business website or marketing email.. I kinda throw up a little in my mouth and then get a little disappointed.

Working on firmware for a board that hasn’t arrived yet… time to build it up on the ‘ol’ breadboard.

I setup a custom ECAD profile on my stream deck for designing PCBs. It’s pretty awesome having dedicated buttons for some of the tasks and functions that I often use and forget the shortcuts for. Still a work in progress.

Ouch! 0.2mm mess up in the footprint. It’s a “tight fit”… some would say too tight. Sigh.

This is wrong! Thanks to @anthocyanina.bsky.social for the keen eye catch! This is the _actual_ circuit!

this is the circuit

Cycling a power relay 25 times a second (too fast for the camera to even pick up, but you can hear it). What’s going to fail first? The relay, the MOSFET, or the Microcontroller?

USB-A —> USB-C —> USB-A

Why does this work better than just plugging the cable’s USB-A connector in directly?!
November 26, 2024 at 6:06 PM
ugh... why not "right-click... new sheet..."

I mean all the dimensions are good for making sure things will align with multiple card edge connectors like this when designing the mated PCBs... but damn, maybe a sheet with card centers and a sheet where edges are defined. IDK, this is hard to read.
