That was when unlikely cover versions and mashups were very in. Bands like Nouvelle Vague… but I have files from then of the vox from “I wanna dance with somebody” laid over Kraftwerk or an amazing one of “rock with you” over “under pressure” which is bizarrely excellent.

I know at least one guy who would definitely buy a book about how you can stop 5G with coconut oil.
