I'm not sure but I think that the scientists might have calculated this whale's journey a bit incorrectly

Is it slowing down and driving considerately for other classes of road users?

... and holding humanity back in the progress. Bit of a Moffat-y idea for the late 1970s, wouldn't you say?
Other things to love are the Doctor pretending to be a lion, and the yo-yo on the sacred altar scene.
Also Marco and Giulliano are definitely lovers. Just look at the second chair.

It takes some very enjoyable capture-recapture-plot thickening-plot evaporating to get to the point (most of the way through Part 4) for this guy to explain that the helix thinks humanity might be a threat, but also Mandragora might just be an idea thinking for itself...
December 4, 2024 at 10:16 PM
Sorry, where were we? Ah, yes Mandragora. The Pontmeiron setting is lovely. As are Giulliano and Marco. And they are clearly in love with each other. Props to a very, very old blog for making this quite possibly the most exciting element of this story to 13 year old closeted me who had never seen it

Then again, the Whittaker and Smith eras feature a lot of TARDIS scenes and you get (deep breath) House, TARDIS BLOWING UP, Flux juice, weeping angels and more. Still, the creepy Malus-thing still wins for me - and the Davison era is hardly light on TARDIS scenes...
December 4, 2024 at 10:16 PM
Ditto, McCoy has two literal postal delivery robots drop by. Then again, there's this guy - but it is suggested it takes a shit-tonne of effort to teleport a robot postman into the ship.
December 4, 2024 at 10:16 PM
Speaking of the TARDIS, do you think there's a correlation between writers/eras of the show that focus less on the TARDIS itself and depicting it as more permeable? There's not a huge number of TARDIS scenes in these early Tom years and baddies pop inside an unprecedented twice in as many seasons.
December 4, 2024 at 10:16 PM
Is this the first time since The Daleks and the fluid link debacle that the Doctor is directly responsible for the Bad Thing that subsequently happens? Also the helix energy entering the TARDIS while the Doc and Sarah hide behind it is played much less portentously than Sutekh a season earlier...

You know one of the best things about having (nearly) all of #doctorwho available on iPlayer? The random stories I have chosen to watch on a whim. Most recently, Masque of Mandragora. And so, a thread of (largely unoriginal) thoughts is born...
