I think it's that they genuinely do not have the tools or will to center other people. I think about this a lot re "privilege" -- many of us have no issue talking about how we're privileged and how we aren't, but when it comes to racial privilege they lose their minds. Or "all lives mater" etc etc

I had someone respond to the article that I posted about anti-Muslim hate to say "muslims aren't the victims" because everyone but white men are. Genuinely they cannot think about anything but themselves. And that's how we got into this mess.
