I'm not trans myself, but I've noticed that the people who insist that you must be whatever gender was identified at birth are the same people who called me girls' names all through middle school.

Trump: “Well, maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls. And maybe the two dolls will cost a couple bucks more than they would normally.”

If a child must settle for two dolls instead of 30, that's a 1500% price increase, not a "couple bucks more."

Just reminding people of Susan Collins's paltry excuse for acquitting Trump on his first impeachment:

Very disappointed in my recent stay at Wingate by Wyndham in Christiansburg, VA.
I checked into room 230 around 8pm. A few minute later, I heard a woman yelling from the next room over (232). Her husband uses a wheelchair and had fallen onto the floor. [more...]

With special meaning these days:

"Fairy tales are more than true, not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten."

New Netflix rates: $7.99/mo with ads, $17.99/mo without ads. As I parse that, it's $8 for the content, but $10 to get rid of the nagware. So the annoyances are valued higher than the content now?

What could be more American?

Anyway, I canceled.

Just started listening to this today: 48 hits, all remixed into surround sound. Verdict: maaan, this sounds nice, but the earliest songs don't really benefit from the surround-sound treatment -- how many speakers do you really need for a voice and piano?

Fortuitous, auspicious, propitious. All can be used to wish good things for 2025, but they have different etymologies: Fortuitous suggests good tidings come from luck, or fortune; auspicious suggests they come from divination. Propitious sets neither of these conditions. Have a propitious 2025!

~The prevailing theory about Trump’s second term is that the horse now knows its way around the hospital. I have my doubts. What practical knowledge Trump gained in the first term is outweighed by the accelerating cognitive decline he displayed over the past year.~

Donald Trump Is a Weakling. That’s the Problem.
Yes, he’s authoritarian. But the specific danger he poses is the chaos caused by his lack of discipline, not a triumph of the will.
