Today, @NHSEngland has announced that all new patients registering at GP practices will be asked if they had a blood transfusion before 1996, as part of a drive to find undiagnosed patients affected by the infected blood scandal.

Great to see this announced last week - new investment to roll-out opt-out testing for blood borne viruses - including hepatitis C - in A&Es in NHS Lothian and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
NEW: The Scottish Government has announced new investment to roll-out opt-out HIV testing in A&Es in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

This will save lives and put Scotland back in a position to be the first country in the world to end new HIV cases by 2030.

Yesterday marked the re-opening of the Infected Blood Inquiry with day one of hearings about the timeliness and adequacy of the Government’s response to compensation. Our friends @hepctrust.bsky.social are sharing updates on the proceedings.

In the morning, incredibly moving evidence was provided by a panel from the community, with the Minister receiving questioning the afternoon.

@ukhsa.bsky.social has published its latest data showing continued progress towards elimination of hepatitis C as a public health threat in England. Data shows a major drop in chronic HCV infections across England, with 56.7% reduction since 2015.

In response to a Written Question from @jamiegreeneuk.bsky.social, the Scottish Government has stated that there are no imminent plans to expand opt-out BBV testing in Emergency Departments in Scotland but it will continue to review the case for further roll-out.
