I keep connections to certain people so I know which companies they’re at. That way I know never to work for that company while they are still there.

Kinda happened in the Hadoop ecosystem as well. At a certain point it reaches commercial saturation and the main vendor in the space takes over the discourse.
I think Linux has done a good job resisting this trend purely because of Linus giving no fucks.

I have walked through a data center with 2” of water flowing across the floor where all the electrical runs were so I could get in and turn off equipment.
