From the intro to Boyarin’s ‘Border Lines.’ He was castigated by so many for drawing comparisons of the treatment of Palestinians to the Shoah, and these past 2 years have demonstrated, more than ever, just how right he was and is. Wish that even 5% of Bible scholars were at least not cowards.

It’s the siege of Jerusalem and the end of the Davidic dynasty on this “season finale” of the Bible Lore Podcast. Along the way, scholar @blindscholar.bsky.social joins me to discuss the way elites justified their own class position through mythology. This is the big one, gang.

Brian Kilmeade is slavering for the execution of homeless people. This is what mainstream right-wing media is like. You don’t have to say that killing Kirk was right – it wasn’t, it was stupid and ineffective – but the weepy condemnations and tone-policing will not fix or stop what is coming.

Since nothing else is going on, check out the newest BLP episode! Talking child sacrifice in reality today, specifically the Punic “mlk” ritual that left jars of infant corpses buried throughout the Mediterranean.

Thrilled to have @slclunk.brighamyoungmoney.com on the pod to talk about the decidedly less-thrilling Mormon/Evangelical co-production: The Chosen, a show that dares to bring Prestige TV bloat to the gospels and tries to get away with Jew jokes by replacing "Jew" with "Pharisee". Neat!

now there's a well-read book

Sometimes they’d throw a dick in front of even nice villas as a joke iirc, but the “nice” brothel in Pompeii has a series of works that some scholars think is essentially a “menu” of positions which is pretty good.

It’s child sacrifice day on the pod! This is probably my favorite episode so far, as I explore perhaps the most taboo topic of them all. I try to keep it light?? Get it where you get pods!

New ep! NOTE: I put the outro music in yesterday; I claim no responsibility for or foreknowledge of Ozzy’s imminent death. Anywho:

We’re at peak Assyria. Esarhaddon succeeds in getting Egypt, but it will prove to be a self-installed sword of Damocles hanging over the empire. Plus, oaths!

It's snakes, divine dicks, and an aborted siege of Jerusalem on this episode of the Bible Lore Podcast. We enter into the insanity of the 7th century with a bang, and I've also got scholar Eve Feinstein back on to talk more about cultic purity. Tap in!

Not engaging with this Coaston stuff, you’re all forgetting the number one rule when dealing with contrarian Yglesias orbiters

Bible Lore Monday, this time I’m talking with scholar Eve Feinstein about the concept of “purity” in the Hebrew Bible while we settle in for the reigns of Hezekiah of Judah and Sennacherib of Assyria. Plus! I’m on my way to Rome, where I’ll be filming special content for patrons.

As Noah Kulwin has noted, this is not the first time that Dems have shown their hand on their vicious foreign policy positions in relation to impeachment. They did the same shit with Nixon. They consistently refuse to take any opportunity to show daylight between them and the GOP on foreign policy.

As always, the most clear-eyed analysis comes from @ahjohnson.bsky.social

Latest ep is out from behind the paywall! I've got Tarence and Tom from The Trillbillies on to revisit the clothes-pile thriller classic, Left Behind, and ask some tough questions like “How did they spend $17 million on this?” and “What if the Rapture was good, actually?” Out on all platforms

I'm back with Bible Lore Podcast Episode 17: The Fall of Israel. Samaria comes crashing down and I talk with @nabalkattu.bsky.social about the legacy and consequences of this destruction, both in its immediate history and even to our present moment.

In Western media there is almost nobody doing as critical of work on Gaza as Drop Site.

yeah they were all marx's potato peasants from the 18th brumaire, she was right to scorn them and their lack of class consciousness

Anyway, don’t care that I was blocked, but here’s the original post so that the thread makes sense.

And here’s another poll from April 2024 - about the same. I think Daniel’s framing glosses over this for the same reason many other Americans like to focus on Netanyahu as the sole problem: they refuse to recognize that this is the kind of culture and society apartheid produces.
June 2, 2025 at 6:21 PM
It’s possible to say that it’s horrible to violently attack people, even people engaging in terrible behavior, without doing what Daniel is doing here, which is glossing over the fact that throughout the war, depending on polling question, 70-90% of Israelis have supported this genocide.

Not only is the Western Canon fake, the fake canonizers didn't preserve or include El's Drinking Party so they can be dismissed out of hand. We would be six hundred years ahead on hangover cures if they'd bothered to copy the goddamn tablet.

As a Senator you can be openly racist against Palestinians and Arabs more broadly and because all elected Republicans and more than half of elected Democrats agree, you’ll never be censured.
