No, TSA can't legally take your phone. If a TSA agent stole your phone you need to report that to the police or the airport authorities. Customs can look through your phone or computers over the border though

the tsa doesn't have a knife length limit. if they view it as a knife with a sharp blade then you can't carry it on an airplane, but bring whatever knife you want in your checked bag

it depends on the xray machine that they are using, one can have everything left inside but bags have to be in a bin, the other has to have laptops taken out but bags can be put right on the belt.

Larger airports sometimes have multiple different machines that have their own protocols, so you couldn't have it posted down the line. Smaller airports that have all the same machines could do it.
