This is one of my refillable ones. I have to keep topping it up with eliquid, it needs charging up every 3 days too. I do use disposable ones sometimes, but I find the refillable ones much more enjoyable. Weren't cigarettes horrible!

I use this crystal to find things that are lost. It works every time.

This arrived today, along with volume I. I'm really pleased with it/them. Buying old books online can be a bit of a minefield. Condition is critical, so of course is price. I always check with other dealers to see what they are selling the book for. I bid for this one on eBay.

Over here in the UK we have the Grey Heron, which does look very similar. We did get a Great Blue Heron here in 2007 however.

We have confusing warblers too in the UK. A lot are leaving for warmer climes though at this time of year. Thank goodness they all sing very distinctive songs.

I know what you mean. They seem quite unearthly. This is what Thomas Pennant wrote about another species of pangolin in 1771 (The Long Tailed Manis). I hadn't realised there were so many different species of pangolin.

This came from Thomas Bewick's book on Quadrupeds 1807.

I think I've found it! Swegle means: bright, clear, brilliant, splendid. I knew my Anglo Saxon dictionary would be useful sooner or later.

I've bought some good old stuff off eBay too. The best so far was this 500 year old map of Spain and Portugal.

This book, printed in 1933 has got names for winds and snow storms in the Pennines, used by the natives back then. The Helm Wind is the only wind in Britain with a name and it's still used today. I don't think the names for snowstorms are still used today though.

This is the first English edition of Linnaeus' Philosophia Botanica by Hugh Rose. There is a surprisingly huge list of ancient botanists now obscured by time. Invaluable to botanical research. The second book is fascinating too. Linnaeus is up there with Darwin imo.

This 1857 map of South America came from Australia about a year ago.

I read this in 1997 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Having just graduated with a degree in Ecology helped me understand it.
