Ah shame finding out about this. There's so much to love about the game, it's sad that this puts a stank on it and ruins what could be a masterpiece.

Yeah! I agree it’s intentional. I just think it has some flaws and challenges. For example, I did rely heavily on audio for timing but a lot of my life means I can’t use audio loudly so I could only rely on visual timing. I think it was a choice but could have been better with accessibility settings

Yep, I totally agree. This is a nice in-game way to solve it for sure. The balance challenge would be you’d want to give something like this as an assist style Picto early on, so having it be expensive may not work. Therefore it might fall into optimal strategy territory

Yeah, agreed. I feel like I was set up to go into that. I’m glad they tried something new though, and maybe it brought more non traditional JRPG fans in. But I find missing counters and dodges to be quite harsh.

If I could make one change, I’d at least add an independent option to widen the counter window without reducing overall difficulty.

There’s so many great games out there these days. I rely - so much - on word of mouth to find neat this so I appreciate posts like this 😃
