if your ideology is based on the idea that it is justifiable to prey on the weak there isn't going to be a meaningful boundary you can draw between looting from the poor and sexually exploiting kids. i don't think every conservative is a pervert but that is the logical conclusion of their beliefs

The fact that Larry Summers was so proud of his "tee-hee I said something naughty and got away with it" that he bragged about it to Jeffrey Epstein gives us the synthesis of pedocon theory and everyone-is-twelve theory

Morris' nonfiction travel books, like Sultan in Oman; her history/travelogue of the British Empire; and her memoir, Conundrum, are also all good.

Hav, by Jan Morris (a trans author). A famous travel writer's guide to a country that does not exist. Distills the history of the Eastern Mediterranean and the rest of the world into one dreamlike little city state. First part is set in 1985, second about returning to a transformed Hav in 2009.

The Last Samurai, Helen DeWitt. Nothing to do with Tom Cruise. A ferociously smart, funny, formally nimble book about a single mother and her son in c. 2000 London, both of whom may or may not be geniuses, the boy's idiosyncratic education, and his search for the man who could be his father.
