I was simply demanding better from eight Senators in the Democratic caucus, especially after we achieved major election victories while polling showed the public was blaming the Republican Party for the shutdown.

Durbin took Thune at his word on a vote on the ACA subsidies while Mike Johnson was effectively making clear days earlier that he had no interest in taking up the issue in the House.
There's no erasing the reality that those eight Senators in our caucus engaged in bad Democratic politics, period.

Contrast this with how Mamdani felt completely at ease talking about both economic issues and identity. Future Democratic candidates need to feel comfortable talking about both issues.

Contrast this with Barack Obama's approach to Mamdani, who recognizes his potential and wants to work with him going forward. This should not be outlier behavior among party establishment operatives, but it apparently is.
