This Snow Bunting turned up at Baiter Park today. A really confiding bird that will hopefully stick around for others to see, like the one last year on Hamworthy Beach.

Species recovery comes in many forms. Targeted reintroductions, long term legal protection & habitat creation/restoration. All are as important as each other. It doesn’t matter how it’s done as long as it gets done. During our WeBS survey today we saw the benefits of all three methods. 🙌

A record 8 Water Pipit have been colour ringed by Stour Ringing Group this winter at RSPB Lytchett. This is part of a UK scheme to find out more about Water Pipit migration across Europe.

Roughly 10k Wood Pigeon have migrated high above Poole Harbour this AM. Pretty low total compared to previous years exceptional totals of +150k

Our first nocturnal ringing demo of the winter is coming up on 19th November, where we'll hope to show you birds like Woodcock, Jack Snipe and Common Snipe being ringed under BTO license.

25mph winds & grey sky's didn't deter us from our low tide cruise y'day. Despite the wind we battled through & were rewarded with 1 RT Diver, 9 Spoonbill, 1 WT Eagle, 26 Red-breasted Merg, 3-4 Marsh Harrier, plus lots of winter waders & wildfowl, Avocets, db Brent Geese @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social

We’ve received news of an amazing yet sad ringing recovery from the Stour Ringing Group who have only just found out themselves of an adult Curlew that was ringed by their group in the harbour, Feb 1987 which was shot in NW Russia, April 2015, 2486km away c28 years later!@dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social

We had some great reports of sightings of both 1H1 (adult female) and 5R8 (chick) from ‘Nest 2’ being seen and photographed in Christchurch Harbour last week! Great to see they have started their migration.
