let's talk about dogs
Yeah choosing options can be SO overwhelming, I feel ya. I got help through the Entertainment Community Fund last year, and they were lovely. I think there may be a few steps to access their assistance, but if it’s still available, I recommend them!

🫂🫂🫂 you are not alone and I’m right there with you! It’s such an effort to not allow the bitterness to take over. How are we supposed to simply toss away years of our careers when it wasn’t our choice or fault? MediCal has fortunately saved my butt with my health issues, but I miss MPI

I always tell people that I'm not worried about AI doing what I do, I'm worried about people with control over my livelihood thinking that AI can do what I do!

I used to actually dye my hair super dark brown/black back in like 2012/2013! I sometimes think about doing it again lol

People won’t expect you to be a pro with the software, esp in early career positions- but there is a general expectation to be able to at least hit the ground running with the software

Back in the day I managed to take advantage of SBP’s week-long free trial via different email addresses to gain a base level of knowledge of the software, but they seem to be a little more strict with the trial these days, which stinks!

For real, and there’s really no Clip Studio Paint equivalent if we wanna compare Photoshop with Storyboard Pro. They can be cozy in their audacity cause there’s no threat to their business model. (This is me trying to manifest the Clip Studio Paint of storyboard apps lol)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and again- the arts, and especially animation, has a massive financial accessibility problem

Also for storyboards- I recommended using Speaker Deck for your portfolios. It’s a quick and easy way to display your boards sequentially

If you wanna storyboard- watch movies, watch TV. Not just cartoons! It’s dorky of me but sometimes I’ll be so fascinated with how a scene was composed that I’ll rewind it to absorb it more.

Continuing this thread! Be kind to recruiters. They have so much on their plate and their jobs involve a lot more than portfolio reviews and replying to emails.
