This is the most openly corrupt act by a sitting President in the history of America. It is now 4.40 PM - and Politico, WaPo and NYT are simply refusing to cover it. NYT wrote 35 articles speculating on the POSSIBLE corruption of Clinton Foundation. Which was never found.
This is so surreally corrupt it’s hard to even grasp. US media is incapable of processing it - directly using the White House to promote a meme coin with hidden ownership structure.

Seeing grad app season posts on here - a reminder that
- Australian PhDs are great,
- applications are typically taken on a rolling basis,
- I’m looking for a PhD student at UQ on JWST imaging, and - our colleagues at Sydney for one on the Toliman Space Telescope!

Since so many have asked, here’s my hot take on the spherules Loeb found and the manuscript he’s loudly rushed to the world. These are pretty typical cosmic spherules. Had he done the *obvious*--a control sample 100 km away from the meteor--he’d have found the same thing. 1/20

I'm on the academic job market this fall! 🥳

I recently completed my PhD, and I'm looking for a 3+ year postdoc position. I'm also applying to fellowships to potentially work on my own project ideas. 🔭

Buckle up! It's time for a thread of self-promo 😇

Had lots of fun with Tom Bakx writing this one, and I ❤️ that a bias in JWST data is almost the same as something Eddington spotted in 1913. I'd summarise in a thread but the paper's so short you might as well click on the link! arxiv.org/abs/2308.13347 🧪 🔭
Objects in JWST's mirrors are closer than they appear
The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has revealed extremely distant galaxies at unprecedentedly early cosmic epochs from its deep imaging using the technique of photometric redshift estimation,...

JWST is currently our best functional time machine. NIRSpec delivered spectra of a single(?) star as it appeared 12.5 billion years ago.

In the observed spectrum, the redshift is so high that CaII H & K (rest frame ~ 0.4 µm) are redward of 2 µm. 🤯

I'm on holiday! Don't demand that I come into work to sign paperwork. If it's such an issue, modernize your administration so it can be done remotely. Let me enjoy my holiday! :/
