Was going to exercise this morning but my usual exercise space has become a temporary photo studio! It’s gorgeous, I’m not even mad.
The messy garage has been transformed into a temporary photo studio, complete with a black backdrop featuring an array of large, fancy gold picture frames placed artfully with a vase of medlar branches on and around an old trunk. There is lighting equipment, a rumpled length of fabric, and a heater on the ground. My hand can be seen pointing to the exercise bike which is shoved behind the backdrop, inaccessible. Also, please note the planter box of geraniums on the floor being kept in darkness, unwatered, as an experiment to see if they will once again survive the winter and make a glorious return in the spring.

A day late and a dollar short to the whole Rapture thing, but as I was driving today I saw a dapper older gentleman in a top hat and suit riding his bicycle on the sidewalk. A little while later I was driving behind an SUV with a vanity license plate that read: REPENT.

I think I now better understand why my great grandmother immigrated to Canada. 2/2
A procession of women in traditional Slovakian clothing is seen walking out of their small village. The woman in the front of the procession is holding a straw effigy of the Slavic goddess of winter and death: Morena. The effigy is also dressed in traditional women’s clothing. The straw effigy of Morena has been stripped of her clothing and set on fire. The woman holding the burning effigy is poised to toss her off of a bridge as the other women cheerfully look on. More onlookers in modern clothes stand on the bank of the river with cameras ready to capture the event. In a traditional Slovak village, a young woman in traditional garb is being restrained by a young man (also in traditional garb). Two more young men are tossing cold water from wooden buckets at her. Another young man watches in the background as he retrieves another bucket of water from the well. My great grandmother’s passport photo from 1924. At 19 years old, she looks stern and unimpressed. Her left hand is on her hip and her right hand rests on a small table to the side of the photo.

Time to change out the ‘ol Ghost Dispenser!
A closeup photo of my desk with two tissue boxes on it. One is empty with the words “GHOST DISPENSER” scrawled on it in Sharpie. The other box is full and probably going to get the same modification because it amuses me and I need little amusements at work. It’s also more fun to offer people tissues.

Furnace is on the fritz but at least I have befriended the best little hand warmer in the house.

My sis scavenged a bunch of branches and old man’s beard before the weather turned and created a beautiful winter background for a photo shoot. The benefit to living with a weird artist is that you sometimes get to use the cool stuff after they’re done with it. ❤️

Coworker and I created a winter vignette with the three plastic piggy bank pigs that we keep around the office — a “pignette,” if you will. A rather clever porkmanteau.
Two pink plastic piggy banks wear scarves and skis and are skiing down a mountain made of stacked white boxes towards a finish line. A third pig has passed the finish line, but has crashed into a mess of computer cords and keyboards. He is upside down and one ski has fallen off and a ski pole lies bent on the ground beside him.

It is a soft hedgehog dressed in a Santa suit. Superimposed on the photo are the following words: “My cat, an idiot: Those ornaments look exactly like my toys. Why can’t I play with them?” A close-up photo of my Christmas tree with the Santa hedgehog ornament now reinstated and hanging on a low branch. It is altered, one eye now visibly askew after being chewed by Pandora. It looks slightly haunted. Made a lucky lemon piglet to herald the New Year!
A lemon has been crafted into a pitiful excuse for a pig. Four toothpicks have been jammed into the bottom of the lemon, spaced to represent the creature’s four legs. A slit has been cut into the lemon’s protruding nubbin to depict its mouth. A shiny dime has been inserted into the slit so it looks like the “pig” is chewing on it. Above this, two cloves have been jammed in to represent eyes. Above these, two more rounded slits have been cut to act as ears. At the other end of the lemon creature, a small, curly piece of tin foil has been inserted for the tail.

A screen capture of an Instagram feed. A “Suggested for you” post displays a comic by user badwonton. They have decided to incorporate music in their post and it is none other than Wham!’s “Last Christmas.” Alas, the sound is on. I am very put out, but the comic is good. Panel 1 of the comic shows a festive rutabaga(?… root vegetable of some sort) asking a frog “Tis the season of giving, Froggo! What are you giving this year?” Panel 2 is a close up of the frog’s happy face. They have stars in their eyes as they announce “I’M GIVING UP!” Comic ends. Appropriate.
