In Cyberpunk 2077 AI kills the internet by propagating all over it. I can't help but feel disgust that we've created a fountain of human knowledge and then poisoned the well by allowing AI to run amok, meaning the reality of any image/video online is now suspect.

There's nothing wrong with mag tape data storage; it is cheap and very effective over time. They probably have now dumped data into a cloud service, which only backs up data by storing it in different locations. This is more expensive and requires better hardware and bandwidth.

From the DataHoarder community on Reddit: DOGE claims to be moving away from magnetic tapes for archival storage. Seems like a bad idea. What are they using instead?

Missed this yesterday.

19 Democrats (including Chuck Schumer.....) joined Republicans in voting to repeal a Biden rule requiring cryptocurrency brokers to adhere to the same tax reporting rules as stock brokers.

A yes vote is a pro-fraud, pro-tax-evasion vote here.

Write shill opinion pieces promoting the "free market" or lose your job. The state of journalism in the US is abysmal.
New: Jeff Bezos emailed staff at the Washington Post this morning announcing that the Post opinion pages going forward were largely going to focus on defending personal liberties and free markets. Current opinion section editor David Shipley is out.

We have been careful to avoid using the word coup, but it’s time to call it what it is—this is a coup. Trump signed an executive order granting only the attorney general or the president the authority to interpret laws executed by the executive branch.

You can now hire goons with guns as a service through an app.

I'm sure the move-fast-and-break-things crowd has fully vetted these individuals and thought through all of the potential violence this app could incure.

We just launched a 16TB archive of every dataset that has been available on data.gov since November. This will be updated day by day as new datasets appear. It can be freely copied, and we're sharing the code behind it to help others make their own archives of data they depend on.

The Archivist of the US should be an actual qualified professional instead of yet another title for a Trump minion. The protection of US records and freedom of citizens to access records is at stake. Those who allow history to be deleted/shredded are doomed to repeat it

Just an incredible project. Thank you to everyone involved
