I was eighteen, living off the land in this beautiful valley for a year and a half. I built a house out of bamboo from this patch. Hard time finding twenty-footers at that time. Look what a few decades later, I visited them, as they had kept me dry and comfortable, at base of wettest spot on Earth

Looking back to the surf spot 'Reefers' where in 1976, I was rammed by a six-foot, sickly black-tipped reef shark. So hard in fact that the bruise on my hip, extended (from the impact) from my shoulder down to my heel. We found this beached shark dead two day later. Did I surf reefers again? YES!

When I was eighteen, I lived off the land for a year, in Hanakapiai Valley, Kauai. I wouldn't trade that experience for anything in the world! Here it the view I got hiking in to the Na Pali Coast.

My Golden Retriever Hapa, was the guardian of the corner. It was his corner, without a doubt. When he passed, Koa came along and seemed to carry on with Hapa's guardianship. The Day's guard, made sure that all was good in the hood.

A simple time, wherein I didn't give two shits about anything, but girls and surfing. Living in a diverse utopia of Aloha. Where a life of little money, was also the happiest time of my life. I give the youths a break, because they will never experience something like this.
