Senior Lecturer in Human Geography, University of Edinburgh. Interested in cities, housing, capitalism. Sometime artist and drummer.
I watch some football highlights on Youtube, and it recommends I watch these next (on a browser with no cookies or account).

If the internet is now our public space, how do we fight the far right without fighting this algorithmic shepherding?

This feels so urgent and impossible.

Additional word on my door as of this morning. I think I'm officially old now.

I realise this isn't the most pressing issue in the world right now, but I find the signage for tickets at Edinburgh Tram stops really irritating.

A shameless plug: nice to see this in paperback at @housmansbookshop.bsky.social (such a wonderful shop). It's a fascinating collection of essays by anarchists in the circle of militant intellectuals gathered around Volontà. Was an honour to co-edit with @gioli.bsky.social

About half way through this and really enjoying it. Angry, critical, hopeful, some beautifully worded lines.

If you'll excuse a friendly critique, I think that's ~40% of income from education only, which is 37% of total income (£1.4 billion in 2023) according to the same report. Image from p.45.

My klezmer band Och Vey are playing tonight at Lost in Leith, with all proceeds going towards Palestine Action. It's a great lineup of local punky bands.

I am mostly lost for words these days. The warping horrors that ethnonationalism nurtures haunt every minute of day and night. I am in Puebla, Mexico, trying to write and running a few sessions on radical geography, where at least the students - their hope, anger, precision - provide some clarity.
