And then the player just subconsciously forms a mindset that they "have" to do that long after the money loss becomes entirely inconsequential. Which leads to frustration, because the player starts to geniunely believe they're forced to finish the challenge, if they die once. No matter what.

I think the death mechanic, and it's interaction with act 1's scarce economy(low Rosary drops, Rare silkeaters, Price of strings) hold too much weight for the average player. which at first forces them to finish the challenge unprepared or else they lose a lot of bank account progress and then...

It's very often against more defensive bosses that they end up just wasting your entire rage because they simply decided to play extra careful and you end up with like 1 opportunity to slash. Don't use it against those bosses. It's actually bad if you do.

Of course, it absolutely falls off later on and SPOILER WARNING(even if I already goofed by dropping a random boss name before it) is naturally useless against Widow, Lace refight, and other bosses that naturally like to spam teleports, parries, or attacks with little opportunities to hit.

You simply don't need defensive items that much when the boss is constantly spasming out, and gives you opportunities to land free berserker hits to heal your masks and deal lots of damage. Your range, overwhelming damage, and heal output is defense enough.

By the time your rage ends you would hit this slow immobile boss enough times to likely have the next bind ready to go. With such dps, and heal output Sister Splinter struggles to keep up and will very frequently get staggered and in my experience literally start panicking and spam vines and adds.

Beast Crest doesn't even actually need Warding bell or Fractured mask that much due to shorter bind, and it's very high potential healing output. Berserker mode has insane range, attack speed, and good damage which results in a loop of beast mode spam against bosses like Sister Splinter.

And also why I dislike(should I have put the spoiler warning?)the notion of nerfing bosses. Diminishing the challenge would also end up diminishing the plotline. A story of overcoming the adversity of this hostile world and giving hope to the hopeless can't work at all when the world isn't hostile.

This is why I love Steel Soul despite just being a permadeath mode as it greatly recontextualizes majority of NPC interactions and discourages that sabotaging playstyle of brute-forcing things. Hornet Statuette has much more significance when both parties are mortal, and might become mere memories.

As undeniable as it is that some tuning is needed. Directly nerfing or rebalancing major story points of the game would greatly harm the narrative that the game has woven only to just make some guys stay stuck and frustrated on a boss for a few hours less. Silksong's story is supported by harshness.
