my #chatmail #deltachat app now does something notable that the official app doesn't: unified inbox (all your chats from all your profiles, in one list)

two big things though: I have to merge the device/saved chats across accounts, and I also have to reorder the list in the app

MS Office's new app icons are. Well, they would look good, apart from the fact they completely miss the point of what they're supposed to symbolize. OneDrive should be puffy rather than flowy; it's a cloud. OneNote shouldn't chop the bottom of the first page; it's supposed to be a tabbed notebook. 🧵

Working on yet another chat app, this one's a chatmail (#deltachat) app. It is connected with a real chatmail account although I haven't set up contact-adding (securejoin?) stuff yet so it's not quite usable right now. But it's getting there, and it already looks quite nice.

Notably different from vanilla VS Code (or VS Codium): each panel now floats, is translucent, and is rounded; a background image is vaguely visible behind the entire editor; panel titles are bigger; the Activity Bar that's usually down the left side is now a tab-bar on top of the sidebar; and the status bar is now part of the editor. The Extensions page is shown on the right side to demonstrate that panel. The Terminal view has a static background because the XTerm canvas (the actual terminal) has one anyway, so I set the background of the entire panel to match.

I got into Google Play, which is the only other interesting thing on here because the menubar splits off from the rest of the window. No, YouTube doesn't show 360 videos, it's just the regular phone version.

I got curious so I loaded up Android XR in an emulator and took some screenshots. The emulator version is barebones with ancient apps, and I bet the launcher/system UI is gonna look way different for each vendor, as per the norm. Slightly more is in alt text.
The keyboard, which is literally Gboard but with rasterized glassy buttons. The system Quick Settings, which resembles Android's but probably prettier. WiFi and Bluetooth are independent tiles at the top, and a battery indicator sits above them. There's a panel below these which looks like it might support multiple pages, which has 8 labeled icon buttons, some toggled on, some toggled off, and one disabled split into 2 rows. Among these are some XR-specific entries: Move boundary, which shows a person standing in a possibly-floating giant hula-hoop, Environment, which shows a unique curved mountain and sun icon, Passthrough Window, which is represented by a computer window symbol with an eye inside, and Recenter, which shows a map pin inside four rounded corners. Below this panel is the brightness slider, and below that there are three buttons: power (which opens the power menu), settings (which opens settings), and the curvy mountain and sun symbol again for environment (which at present does nothing). The first page of the home menu. It shows the date and time, and WiFi and battery status icons. Below these is a row of four buttons: home (which hides all apps, I assume, but otherwise just closes this page and goes back to the environment), Recent Apps (which works just as it does on regular Android), Notifications, and Quick Settings. Three apps are pinned by default: Chrome, Google Play, and Settings. The next page isn't shown but it isn't interesting, it shows ancient AOSP apps in a simple grid, and one OpenXR sample app which just includes an RGB cube in a black void. The notifications screen. Seems built to be used with gaze controls, since the X button for a notification appears when hovering over it (controllers can swipe, but it's less comfortable to swipe away with your eyes). The Clear all button is at the top, above the Silent header. Other than that, it's roughly identical to the Android notifications screen, including collapsing notifications.

Horizon Worlds (Meta's platform) didn't have legs on people's avatars for the longest time. Something every other metaverse/VR social platform had done for far longer.

Strictly defining Ecosystem Roles and, for an application, its Application Roles (such as feeds, and Tangled Knots) should also help in API documentation, to show i.e. in badge form which role an endpoint is related to. (Ideally the blue badge would link to the section/page about it.)
