Maybe a third of the flock that flew overhead earlier this evening, probably closer to a quarter given how long it took me to dig my phone out. They were so loud. 🪶

A nude watercolour fairy, with her body twisted and her wings crumpled, tucked just under the wearer's breast, which is being held up to give a better view. There are splotches of colour around her, as if she has been squashed and juices have come out. She's reminiscent of one of Brian Froud's pressed fairies, but a little more brightly coloured and slightly less alien looking. The same fairy, with the breast hanging naturally. Only the ends of her wings and a bit of her legs are visible from underneath it.

Somehow I too have avoided making that mistake. Could even argue that a couple of them lean in entirely the opposite direction.
A black and grey forearm half sleeve of Captain America the majority of the piece is Cap in his uniform from Winter Soldier, but it is collage with overlapping motifs of large stars, the curve of his shield, the scaled pattern of his classic comics uniform, etc. On the other side of the arm are trees that vary from realism to more abstract, to represent the classic, "Plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth and say, "No. You move."" speech from the comics. Dessin numéro 1 (drawing number 1) from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince), on an inner wrist. At first glance it may appear to be a simple black outline of a slightly squashed men's hat, but the discerning viewer will see that it is in fact a boa constrictor who has eaten an elephant. Two for one on the same leg: On the upper thigh, a black and grey Canada Goose head and neck with some weeds behind it. She is wearing a large pendant in a pearl necklace that wraps around and forms a sort of frame to the portrait. On the calf is a colour rendition of the NCC-1701 Millennium Enterprise. It is a slightly sleeker version of the Millennium Falcon without all the greeblies, done up in the colours and markings of the Original Series Enterprise. Behind it is a curving blue warp trail that appears to glitter, as a tribute to Carrie Fisher. On the top, an inner forearm black and grey tattoo of a dead bird on its back. Cult movie lovers may recognize it as the logo for Death Records from Brian de Palma's 1974 masterpiece, Phantom of the Paradise. Below it is a sternum tattoo of an all-black rendition of a street sign with looping arrows showing possible routes that start at the same origin point at the bottom and then end in four entirely different directions. It is an actual street sign from Winnipeg, for a perfectly navigable intersection.

This guy has to have the sweetest gig ever. He's open 12 hours a week over two days, barely advertises, doesn't even have the name of the place on his building, and still manages to sell out of at least a few flavours every week.

Also I can't wait for my turkey dinner pie.

A chalk sandwichboard is leaning up against a tree next to the road with an arrow pointing towards the business saying "Turkey Pies" in large friendly letters, and another arrow pointing towards the street labelled with sad letters reading "no turkey pies." The same building from the other side. Instead of "PIE," the sign is advertising a previous occupant, Diner's Restaurant Chinese Food, with fast pickup and delivery. It's old enough that the phone number doesn't include an area code. A row of unbaked turkey dinner pies just waiting for their tops. Each one is made of put a base of turkey at the bottom of the pie shell, then organic peas, roasted brussels sprouts, shredded sweet potato, and topped with fresh cranberries.

I think my favourite part of the new window is that it's clean. Most expensive way possible to clean a window, but totally worth it.

Day 2: the relative sizes and perspectives looked a lot closer to real life in person.

They are beautiful dogs though.
The two German Shepherds, sitting in front of a baby gate to the front door, looking longingly out, waiting for their people to return. The younger dog, laying on a large dog bed with his ears perked and his tongue out. He is sleek and shiny and still very much puppy, despite being 2-ish years old and pretty much full grown. The older dog, looking longingly at the apple in the camera-person's hand with one ear perked and the other bent sideways. He is much broader and thicker, partially with age, and partially because he always had a thicker frame. His coat is also shiny, but quite thick, and the white undercoat shows through all over his body.

My house is not big enough for four dogs. Especially when my old lady is the smallest by at least 30 lb.

Ze Germans, they have come.
Two working line German Shepherds laying on a kitchen floor. The larger has his legs stretched out. His coat is much lighter and thicker, although his face is still dark. The younger dog is almost all black with tan legs, and he's curled more into a ball with his head on his paws.

Keeping track of my progress through this class so I can see that there actually *is* progress.

Day 1: the saddest colour wheel I think I've ever made, some colour matching exercises, and fruit to get a feel for values and shading.
Two pages out of a paint pad. On the left is a large circle divided into six segments, which are coloured red, orange, yellow, green, and purple. The purple is split into two, one of which is a sort of dark lavender, and the other is kind of a muddy mauve. The right page has four random blobs of colour, each with a segment of oil pastel, and then attempts to match it with the oil paints. It also has a red apple with some orangey-yellow stripes (probably a gala, if I had to guess) and a pale green unripe tomato.
