1. When international actors seek “liberal” partners in Israel, they often turn to Gantz and Herzog.

They should look closer. Last week, both appeared at a settler conference in Ofra—praising the settler elite and calling for military control over Gaza, southern Lebanon, and southern Syria. >>

Excellent analysis tying the tariffs to the dismantling of democracy. The challenge is how effective these measures are at breaking collective resistance action
Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive.

No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief.

A few good friends and myself have been working on a project - a series of short texts- dissecting the shortcomings of the right-wing security and political misconceptions that have dominated Israel since 2009, and ultimately led to the disaster of Oct 7.

Yes, it's like PiS "won" the elections that doesn't mean it will govern. NYT consistently applies weird winner-take-all US metrics to PR elections with coalitions.

Yet another terrible NYT headline. Wilders' party may have gotten more votes than any other single party, but that’s only 1/4 of the seats. The real story is whether the center-right will cave in to join him or will refuse to normalize the far-right. www.nytimes.com/2023/11/22/w...

A thoughtful thread on the question of ceasefire now in Gaza. It’s basically an OpEd and worth the read. I share this view, especially on the necessity of a 2SS as an end point. Also challenged by the very difficult questions about this stand that @avishaybsg.bsky.social addresses toward the end.
A 🧵with some thoughts on the ceasefire now question. I'll start by saying that while I don't support an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, I don't think calling for one makes you an Israel hater. The sights from Gaza are horrifying and wanting them to end now is an appropriate human response. 1/

Excellent breakdown of the Israeli position.s in the war
A 🧵 on Israeli strategy or lack thereof.

Israel didn’t have a strategy for this war because Israel had no idea this war was coming. Netanyahu had a strategy: avoid war, weaken moderate Palestinians and contain Hamas. But it collapsed, leaving Israel confused and at war. 1/
Between 38,200 and 44,500 buildings throughout the Gaza Strip (about 14% of all buildings in Gaza, and 25% of northern Gaza) have been damaged or destroyed since the war's beginning, new study finds. One of the most intense bombing campaigns of the 21st century by sorties/time & civilian casualties
