Was happy to be greeted by inky caps this am. This mushroom excretes enzymes to digest itself to spread more spores. When the dark spores mix with the digestive fluids, it gives the mushroom an inky appearance. So goth, I love it.

New logo(s) just dropped. Self expression in my research endeavors has been important for me lately. Low key, Tony Hawk pro skater logo was an inspo for these

This is something I’ve done with @briladwig.bsky.social as broader impact activities for grants. I’d love to see more academics make zines.
This thread is a brilliant idea and I hope academics in my circles hire @ambikamath.bsky.social to bring your work to life in zines

Im so bummed to see this. Cipres had been an incredible computational resource to my research program. As an ECR I depended on it to run so many phylogenetic analyses, many if which ended up in my publications. I’m really sad to see it go. Much gratitude for the people who kept Cipres running
Most of my work would have been much harder or impossible without CIPRES. Very sad to see it shutting down so soon...
Really sad to hear that CIPRES will be shutting down in March 2026. End of an era. @verourgiles.bsky.social and I use it in our undergrad evo bio class teaching students about alignment, model selection, and tree building, and I've used it heavily in my own research. I'm going to miss it.

Lately ive been really into zines. They are a great alt medium to convey info and community happenings. This semester I made a EC activity in my biodiversity class that had students make their own zines focusing on their favorite organism in class. Check this out (shared with permission)

There aren't many paleobotanist over here yet, but here's a Starter Pack of people who I follow because they're either paleobotanists🌿, do paleobotanical art🪷, or post about plants in a way relevant to #paleobotany🍁.
It's currently a small list, so lemme know who needs adding.
